Detailed engineering, where the inputs warrant it

For the surfaces that justify deeper modelling, SolaMaxa runs a dedicated detailed PV engine: hourly resource modelling, anisotropic sky irradiance, an explicit component loss waterfall, and a calculation workpaper behind every material result. It raises fidelity — it never silently overwrites screening.

Two tiers, clearly separate

Screening and detailed analysis never blur

Every analysis run carries a stated fidelity. Screening results are never re-routed through the detailed engine — and detailed results are never presented as screening.

Rapid opportunity screening

Fast and comparable

Monthly resource model with PVWatts v8 benchmarks, aggregate loss assumptions, and a provenance-labelled resource confidence. Built to rank surfaces and buildings quickly.

Detailed engineering (this page)

Explicit, staged physics

Hourly (or sub-hourly) resource, anisotropic sky diffuse irradiance, a sequential component loss waterfall, and deterministic modelled uncertainty ranges — every default visible and versioned.

Fidelity is stated per run: screening → detailed (estimated) → detailed (validated inputs).
What the detailed engine models

The physics, stated explicitly

Resource & irradiance

Hourly (or sub-hourly) GHI/DNI/DHI from imported, provenance-tracked weather sources; beam, sky-diffuse and ground-reflected components via an anisotropic sky model; angle-of-incidence effects from documented product data.

Shading, geometry-aware

Time-step shading from the same geometry engine the platform screens with — direct-beam obstruction from canonical geometry, at surface, zone or array resolution.

Temperature & mounting

Cell temperature from established models with mounting classes that reflect how BIPV actually runs — warmer façade classes are visible, not hidden.

An explicit loss waterfall

Shading, reflection, temperature, soiling, mismatch, wiring, inverter conversion and availability applied sequentially — each step records its basis and source. Nothing is bundled into one opaque "system loss".

Semi-transparent & coloured BIPV

Gross glass area, active PV coverage and rated power flow through unchanged; cell efficiency is never inferred from light transmission — manufacturer rated data governs.

Modelled uncertainty

Deterministic modelled ranges over eight documented components — explicitly ranges, not probability statements. Every assumption carries a source and a confidence label.

A readiness gate, not a shrug

Missing inputs are reported, never invented

Before a detailed run, a deterministic readiness check reports exactly which inputs are present, which are defaulted and which are missing — across geometry, solar resource, products, thermal, electrical, shading and system architecture. Defaults come from a versioned register you can inspect; overrides carry a reason.

What detailed analysis does not do

  • It does not replace final professional electrical, façade, structural, fire or compliance design.
  • It does not claim measured or calibrated fidelity unless measured data and calibration are actually supplied.
  • It does not present modelled ranges as probabilistic P50/P90 statements.
  • It does not silently interpolate: any resource-data adjustment is recorded in the run.
